The two portraits measure 20" X 18" and are signed Joh Kollaard. There are two artists named Joh Kollaard; a father (1918=2000) and a son (1954, Utrecht, Netherlands). As far as I can tell, Joh Kollaard actually stands for Johannes Kollaard. I think the artist of the two portraits is the father but am uncertain. The signatures are the same on both paintings, and on the back of each painting someone has handwritten: LBAPVD 3892 and then LBAPD 3894. When I purchased them, they were unframed. One of the frames has a marking on the back for ANCO BILT, which is a Glendale, NY based wood specialties company. Founded by Olef Anderson in 1904, ANCO makes heavy duty artist canvas stretchers among other items.
I'm curious to know more about the artist and who the subject(s) of the paintings are. I don't know if they are two different people, or the same person at different times. Any information would be helpful...thank you!

Born in Utrecht, November 5th 1918. Died May 11th 2000. He was a pupil of surrealist Willem van Leusden
Also went by the name Johannes Oranje and a few museums hold his work.
I think this is him with a self portrait :

Not many auction results.
A Dutch museum would take that off your hands !

Good job Ipress and thank you! Am I able to give you points or does a moderator do that? I'm not quite sure how all of this works.
If I wanted to contact a Dutch museum, how would I do that (email, letter, etc)?
PS. Do you think the paintings look like Gandalf? I'm a Lord of the Rings fan too!
Best Regards....

Contact the museums via email and Twitter.
I think Gandalf would have frowned at the idea of wearing that hat !

Look to the left,, under Ipcress name you will see Applaud or Smite,, try clicking the applaud !! Takes a few posts before you can give points but you may have enough !! The Smite is exactly what it sounds like !!

Not enough points yet. I think....100?

Ok, I understand the positive points. Do you get the negative points when you are bad? Are they like "time out" points? ::)
-
Yes, after you have made 100 posts you have the ability to give both positive and negative points. You will notice very few negative points. Although once in awhile we have had one or two very problematic people.
-
Negative is what the Smite is for !! We do not like those and try to always help as much as we are able !! But occasionally someone will not be happy no matter what we do !! They are just ways for people to say either thank you or to show their displeasure !!

The smites you see came from a disgruntled member that gave one to most of the regulars on here just for "fun". We try not to use it. I wish Ed would take it off of here - just causes hurt feelings. After all, everyone on here does this to help others and have fun - no-one gets paid to hep - but hopefully the help pays off for people!

KC,
That is awful. People should not ruin a good thing!
