Title: Antique Conquistador? Head Sculpture On Board

I'm not sure,but I believe this is a sculpture of an antique conquistador,appears to be some type of sand or volcano ash,it is on a board,this was found in an old trunk in an attic,anyone know any history.It appears someone wanted to take good care of it,item was wrapped very well.
