From the green verdigris and the seam up the length of it I would say its sheet brass !!

This reminds me of items from the early 1920 with a resurgence in the 1960's when Tiki items were popular!

Hey susiecat, can you please post a close up picture of the front of the piece, the inside and the bottom?  Thanks!

The size is similar to the ones that were very popular that I was referring to.  They could have been called Polynesian in style, Hawaiian.  Also, pay attention to the hands.  This one appears to have "thumbs up" which I don't believe is a traditional form in Aztec or Mayan items.

Are you wanting our opinion or are you just wanting someone who will agree with you ??  If you already know  why ask here  ?? Go with whatever you think !!  Not meaning to be rude but all we can do is give our opinion !!

Like the first set here also thumbs up and quite like yours !!  The metal glasses were popular in the late 50`s !!  Hated those things !!  Water condensed so bad on the outside you didn`t dare sit them on anything without a coaster or several paper towels around them !!

Most of the 50’s & 60’s metalware was made of aluminum or stainless and did not have any seams.  Most Tiki cups are ceramic. Unless you edited your decription, it looks like you listed the size of the cup there.
This feels not only older but unique to me. Being a cup holding a cup not very common. How did you acquire this one?

Pelady did you check the link above ??  Same image,, same thumbs up !!  Yes they are ceramic but everyone in the country was making something similar !!  It may be a seam,, thats what it appears to be but could also just be damage !!

Yes Mart,

Looked at your link,

Lots of thumbs up but nothing holding a cup.  I just disagree with your opinion.

Oh I don`t mind the disagreement !!  Thats normal to exchange ideas !!  But I think that maybe it just looks like a cup or glass due to the painting which would not have been original !!  How does one hold a glass or cup with thumbs and fingers in front ??  I have not learned that one yet !!   ;D

This site is NOT just for asking and getting an answer.  It's about give and take, sharing and exchange.  As far as I know, no one here is getting anything for helping except "brownie points".  If so, I'd quit my day job ha!  So, you may help as well on any post you choose.  We would appreciate that because no one here knows everything.

The other thing that really helps is when sizes, dimensions, and past research findings are given accurately.  That way, we are not spending our time wastefully.  Another words, we don't like to do what has already been done.  I realize that some of your items have been online since 2012 and that must be frustrating...

Now about this cup, you originally said you have a book with the same face and arm position.  Perhaps, you could share that with us.  You also mentioned it might be a child's burial cup...why?  I have searched Mayan/Aztec burial cups and don't see any metal ones like yours.  You also don't seem certain about the size and the item is in storage.  It would help to know the correct height and diameter in order to help you.

I've enlarged and relooked at all your photos.  In my opinion, those thumbs are definitely up and the so called "cup" is NOT a cup but rather an artistic texture of the clothing.  What you are calling a cup is actually as tall as the head....

It may just be that this item is a handmade repousse copper/brass cup.  (http://)
