I'm gonna turn this into my kitchen island/bar. So excited about it!!! I just picked out my top. But I was trying to figure out it's age. There are no markings anywhere. So tell me what you guys think. Any info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you open the doors and take a pic ?? One of the side and back would also help !! I would say Art Deco period probably late 30`s just from what I can see !! Could be a bit later than that !! Looks more like a transition piece to me !! Late 30`s into Hollywood Regency of the 1940`s !! Just need to see more !! A while back I saw a similar piece that was a bar !! Neat one too !!
-
I agree totally about the Art Deco transition into Hollywood Regency style!!!

Well, it's really out of my field of interest/knowledge but, i'd guess 1st half 20th century, top is oak. Could be european, pic of drawer construction would help.
-
Don`t think aluminum handles were used that far back !! But seeing dovetails would help !! Either aluminum or stainless screws !!

Are they aluminum , pewter or plated steel/brass? Just noticed spring loaded "bullet" catches on doors as well so bottom line is, it ain't old, lol! Old or early to me is 200-300 years old and this piece is clearly 20th century.
It's attractive, it's just not antique is all. It looks english to me but i could be wrong about that.
-
The front legs on that piece makes me think it is pre-1940.
And ps, those drawer "pulls" could be replacements.

I agree about it being English.

BINGO!
Rauville nailed this one! he/she gets a gold star!
Nice that OP is going to re-purpose this cabinet for everyday use, sideboard found a way to survive another day, everyone wins! In my experience, even with 300 year old pieces, the key to survival is, it MUST be a working piece (unless in a museum) that is still useful around the house, otherwise the chances of survival go way down
-
Good job all...love it when you work together to solve the mystery!
-
Yes Rauville got another one !! Still not sure its as far back as the 20`s but thats not important at this point !! Did you see the price on Rauville`s link ?? Re-diculous !! The pulls are the same on both so not replacements !! 21 pounds thats about $37. USD isn`t it
We always do that SophieMarie !! We are just one big family here !! Now have to give Rauville a brownie point ~~ ;D
I want to see it finished and in the kitchen !! What top are you going to put on it ??
-
Yea! I knew I could count on you guys. thank you all, especially rauville! Y'all just confirmed what I thought I knew but couldn't find a reference. I plan on topping it with granite. Looked at a lot yesterday, picked a cream and brown piece out, just waiting to hear back from them.
-
Post a pic when its done !!
-
Yes, I would like to see the finished project as well!
-
I love seeing pieces loved into a new life! Please post pics!
-
I have seen this done before, it makes a lot of sense and gives kitchen a unique look.
-
Alright, here it is. I think turned out great. It's such great piece for my little kitchen.... more work space, more storage, and seating for dining. Still trying to find the right chairs. I want two upholstered chairs for the back and a stool for the sides, so it will be compact.

Cool! 8)
-
Great match for your other cabinets too !! Looks great !!
-
Stunning! You certainly waste no time on a project.
-
She is lucky it didn`t have 4 or 5 coats of paint on it !!
-
Great job!! Looks fantastic matching your floor tile....GREAT!!!
-
sreyomac, I think you just increased its value 10X. ;)
-
Ty guys! I do love it!!! We had to put a rush on it because I'm hosting Christmas this year. It did match my other cabinetry well, and yes I was blessed to have to remove paint. I loathe removing paint...lol it also helped that we locally sourced our granite... very local, 4 doors down. And we got a good neighbor discount. 8)

Other than that listing, is there proof it’s Ercol ?
They did some Dutch style furniture but that is weird by their standards
