I bought out a lot of old coins, this coin was in batch inside a plastic case that had a name Alexander the great, any way to id coin, what do I look for,I have not cleaned coin,I've had coin about 10 years.I had this coin on another site about 4 years ago, still can't find exact coin.

This coin is not from the reign of Alexander the Great, but from the reign of Lysimachos, one of the Diadochi. What is the size? And could you post a picture of the rim, please? My first impression, looking at the surface, is that it is not old but rather a cast modern imitation. But the pictures of the rim will tell more I think...

I agree. It’s im this style

But appears to be cast rather than struck

Coins like this are often sold as genuine to unsuspecting people !!
-
It's slightly larger than a quarter about 7/8".Picture is a lot lighter, coin is a darker color,I have not cleaned coin.
-
I think it is cast....there is a line going around the edge of the coin.
-
SophieMarie that's from the flash of my camera
-
I don't think so. There is definitely a seam around the edge. Your flash did accentuate part of it but the rest of it appears in a darker color. I blew up the picture to look. It is there,
-
Yes, the seam can be seen clearly, so it is cast and not genuine.
-
Appears to have been made in two parts front, then back and put together ?? Or is that a mold seam ??
-
It should be a mold seam.
-
And there’s a lack of uniform wear to the areas which are normally rubbed. Even the little edge dints will be in the mould.
