Title: Earliest Known American Porcelain Teapot
Post by: jacon4 on February 22, 2018, 11:16:13 AM
John Bartlam teapot to be sold next month in England, it's in pretty rough shape so estimate is low considering. Bartlam was a potter in Charleston SC. I know nothing about pottery but MAD article hooked me on Earliest Known American..... Story at the link

James;
You'd better tell them what it sold for.

Well, it's the earliest known so that makes it valuable even though condition is poor. Institutional buyers like museums drove up the price.
I am not getting notifications when someone posts on a thread that i posted on.

It was $837,905 yesterday! Today its 805k! Either way a bunch for a banged up teapot!
I like the fact it was bought for chump change by a very sharp collector who has a history of of buying "mystery" & "problem" pieces! It was the Palm tree decoration that started the research into the pot.
For anyone that's ever been to Charleston SC, that's one of the first things you notice, Palm trees! I live only 180 miles from Charleston but Palm trees won't survive here in Charlotte which frustrates the hell out of gardeners that try to plant them here. :)

Wow!  no more words...just Wow!

I bet the person selling it was thinking "what is going on here" and..."why didn't I do this sooner"!  LOL

Did you check your settings like SophieMarie suggested jacon4?

Is not a puter wiz but, I hire people that are! They started coming again, email alerts, after a day or 2 of not coming! If my business website operated like these various forums sites do, I'D BE OUT OF BIZ IN A NY MIN!

Almost choked I laughed so hard!  Sounds like my hubby.  He gets frustrated and likes to huff and puff about these things and then takes his time getting around to it (if ever!)  LOLOL
