Title: Whaling Museum

Hello everyone,

I just spent a few days out on Nantucket. A great vacation for any of you history lovers. Thought, I would tease you all with a bit of furniture from the Whaling Museum.  Their historic society start in 1894.  There are over 800 pre-civil war houses on the Island.

Nantucket-made lady's writing desk. Three drawers (pine) with brass pulls on each extremity and escutcheon in the middle. Upper part has three hinged doors with brass escutcheon on interior edge. Middle door resembles inlay depicting, in neoclassical style, potted flower. Straight legs.

I've spent some time at Nantucket - so, I'm guessing you really enjoyed your stay there.  Thank you for sharing the pictures - very nice!

UHHHHHHHH, NOOOOOOOOOOO, lol, it is a very nice Federal desk but, I'll take the banged up teapot! and, I am not into pots at all!

Uh, I would take the teapot...put it in an auction...and then buy lots and lots of treasures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing Pelady!  Would love, love, love to see this part of the US -  Never been to the very NE area.  On our bucket list! 

I mostly hop on trips with my hubby n the next venture with him is Hong Kong (he flies there 3 times a month but is only there 52 hours!  17 1/2 hours over then 17 hours back if there's a good tail wind! and then - ahem - a zombie for 2 days! For the newbies that don't know - he is a airline Captain!)  Just was in Hawaii 3 weeks ago and saw the beautiful whales there.   Mart, I have finally rubbed off on him after 30+ years - he is starting to look for antiques for me and actually brought me home a hand full of sea glass he got off the beach that keeps washing up from the tsunami back when!

Yeah, absolutely! The teapot has historical value far exceeding it's antique value, that's for sure. I can see museums all over the country dialing for dollars their deep pocket patrons on that teapot, HELP!!! PLEASE!!!! which is why it went for so much.

Well after all the years its about time something rubbed off on him !!  Do you have plans for it ??  I have seen some neat craft projects done with sea glass !!

Mart, so far just admiring it - because it's value is in the fact he went and picked it up for me!  Thus it is priceless!  LOLOL

I had started filling a jar with sea glass but it was only small pieces not the big pieces!  These are the size of a quarter and larger!

I collect sand from every beach and use it throughout the house.  Here I used it in a vase (its good for live flowers if you put water in the sand!)

That's really a beautiful display!  I save shells from different beaches and display the smaller ones in vases or unusual glass containers.  There's nothing more relaxing than a walk on the beach in search of treasures ;)

Thanks SophieMarie.  I have LOTS n LOTS of shells, coral, sand, sand and more sand!  LOL 

My favorite beach in the world (so far) is the green beach on Big Island of Hawaii!
