Title: English wardrobe
Post by: Kathy Pillmore on May 09, 2018, 12:41:09 PM
I have acquired an English wardrobe and am attempting to determine information about it's history, manufacturer and current value.  Pictures of the wardrobe and the markings on the inside are included.

Hopewells is a retail store and is still in business unless they closed recently !! They handle all types of housewares and furnishings  !!  Couldn`t find anything on Walnut Cabinet works but didn`t look through the directories !!  Someone said they closed  in the 50`s or 60`s and they made reproductions of older styles !!
Value would depend on where it is sold and its condition !! Wardrobes of any style are a hard sell !!

Welcome to the forum.
I looked briefly, and read that the company changed their name to Olympus Furniture in 1972. Thus the wardrobe would theoretically date prior to that.
As far as value, I believe the seller in the link below is somewhat under a spell of wishful hoping. :o

Yeah, agrees with above, these cabs are a tough sell not only because they are BIG but also because they have been made obsolete by built in closets in homes, in USA built in closets first started to appear in 1900.

No sale huh, i am not surprised. Quite awhile back i saw some of these repurposed as entertainment centers but now with wall mounted flat screen TVs and digital music, it's kinda a no go as far as function goes.

BUT....there are people such as yours truly that still love these pieces.

They are still very popular with apartment dwellers and small homes for extra storage even here in USA!  They are being made into coffee/tea bars and even are made into "Doors/entrances" to private rooms.  I could go on and on...

Beautiful piece!
