Hey All:
Got this last week at an auction in Missouri. It's a labeled Bradley & Hubbard oil lamp, 3 feet tall (including the shade and chimney) and 7" wide. Stylistically it has both aesthetic movement elements (the painted glass shade) and Belle Epoch/gilded age Neoclassicism (the rest of it). The burner and oil reservoir have not one but four dates: 1881, 1888, 1889, and 1890 so a ca. 1890 date for the lamp seems realistic enough. The materials are onyx, spelter, brass, glass, paint and gilt. It's heavy at around 10-12 pounds.
We know it's American, we know the date, but what about replacement value, assuming another one could be found?
Thanks!!

This is depressing !! Realistically,, in todays market this lamp would sell for about $300 to $400. !! But for replacement value I would put $400. to $600. Ocassionally you will find one for more than that but not often !! And the oil burners do better than those electrified !!
-
Sad. This is an oil burner; it's never been electrified.
Well, I've had my share of good buys in the past couple of years, but I'm only breaking even on this one. Good thing we love it!

Nice lamp!
Even the Smithsonian has a couple...

Apparently, they still appreciate oil lamps "down under"...(AU= .76USD)

Sure better than here !!

$874! Now that's more like it! :)
Interesting that they've got one in the Smithsonian. Pretty darn classy...... 8)
Thanks Rauville!!

Wonder if your insurance company would let you go to Australia to replace it ?? :D

Ghopper,
Your lamp is definitely classier than this electrified Bradley & Hubbard lamp:

Wow, that one is amazing SophieMarie!!! Thanks for the vote of confidence.:))

I do not even like the one on RubyLane !!

I like your banquet lamp!
Haven't seen another one with the inlaid marble base made by B&H!
Can you post another picture with the base "in light". It is in so much shadow I can't make out the details and I know they will be nice!!!
-
Here you go. Now that I look at it, I believe it has even more detail than Rauville's example in the Smithsonian. Liking it more every day.

That last pic shows much more detail than the first one did !!

Per KC's request ;)
