The other week we briefly discussed about items that were being listed on multiple sites by sellers (believe it was on the thread about the brass/glass tea/dessert cart). Just to show...here is an example that is for sale on Ebay, 1stDibs and Etsy and ALL have different prices!
I have only seen it on higher priced items because I am sure you are charged $$ for all listings on each site. However, you can end listings (because you sold it elsewhere BUT ARE NOT telling the sites that you have) without a major penalities/costs. I have even bid on items in the past that a listing was ended early (after I was bidding on it) because it was no longer available. (That is when I first discovered the multiples were occurring.) However, the seller gave the excuse it was no longer available because it was no longer in pristine condition because it was dropped/dented. I replied that it was okay and still wanted it. (Snicker snicker) But out of the goodness of their heart they couldn't do that. (REALLY!) When I found they had sold it on another site for much more!

What was the 1st dibs price ?? Didn`t see that !! Where are these odd prices come from ?? Etsy`s was $1113. plus change ??
-
Well, at least your bid button didn't get stuck! :)
-
1stdibs price $1,229.32 Etsy price $1,113.59.
Jacon4 LOL. Nope, didn't bid on it. Just hadn't seen one before and when I searched for it came up with the multiple listings. I have no need for it...but then most items that I collect I have no need for! :O
-
I don't see what's wrong with listing in multiple places with different prices as listing fees are different i assume.
-
Nothing wrong with it as long as the bidders know it !! Wouldn`t you be a bit PO`d if you had bid on one site and found out the same item had been listed on another at a lower price ?? And some bidders may prefer buying at one site more than others !! There is a $ 115 difference in etsy and 1st dibs !!
-
A whole $115. dollars huh? A rounding error when buying antique furniture! Were they bidding? I was thinkin it was a set price for the item. And if a set price, nothing unusual to me about buying same item at different stores at different prices, Walmart price VS Target price for example are different prices for same item.
-
Thats why I read the sale papers !! And thats why I do not shop at some stores,, hate to pay more when the shop next door is much less for same item and same brand !!
-
These two sites are set prices but I have seen many items over the past few years listed on many sites that are on fixed AND auction sites.
I have mixed emotions about it. I actually bought an item 2 years ago on auction (Ebay) and won. The seller came back and said that it sold for too little and that they weren't going to fulfill the sale! I filed a complaint with Ebay and the seller told them item was not longer available. Well it was on another site for a whole lot more money! Ebay didn't oust them even tho they got the actual messages from the seller showing they just wanted more money and didn't fulfill their obligation!
So, I do have a problem with sellers like that. This has taught me to search the internet to see if the same item is for sale elsewhere and for less. I then decide if I really really want it - and if I bid/offer I will only do it on legitimate sites.

I am with you KC !! Don`t mind paying for something I want but get a little PO`d at some sellers tactics !! If it brings more on one site then thats where they need to list it !! Surprises me that Ebay did that !!
