Couldn`tell if this was a model car or pedal car !! Do you know Cogar ?? It didn`t really give any details !! Great find anyway !!

And at a recent sale in Maine, even the "latch to the barn" sold... ;)
"Wrought-iron door latch, probably made by the blacksmith who inscribed it with his own name, Abram Foster, and dated it 1791, sold for an impressive $8280"

I really don’t know, Mart, but looking at the 3rd picture, …. with the hood raised, …… it doesn’t look like it is a “pedal car” because looking at the big hole in front of the seat and no pedal mechanism there, the driver must have used their feet “push/pull” it forward and backward.
But then, looking at the picture real close for a 2nd time, just in front of the 1st spark plug, I can see there is a rusty metal rod across the opening, which is surely part of the pedal mechanism.
And Rauville, ….... that is one beautiful door latch.
Thanks for posting.
And "WOW" ----- 1791 and still looking good.

I believe those little Austins were made as "pedal powered", unless ordered for a special purpose. Fair rides would have used them without the pedal drive.

Went back and read the article again !! It said it was a pedal car ! Guess I need to read instead of looking at the pics more often !!
I love that barn door latch !! Wish I could find one like it !! But,, doesn`t happen in Texas !!
