Hi gang,
Here is a puzzle for you. Just for fun, I picked up this lead paperweight, with a house etched into the surface, dated 1804 on one end, and 1886 on the other end. I thought it would be fun to try to find the house it came from, apparently commemorating work or the lifespan of the house or something. At first I thought this might be Mount Vernon, but it does not match, even in earlier periods. I've tried hunting online, but to no avail. I'm guessing this lead is a piece of something from the house, but what I do not know. It's all a mystery. It is oddly shaped, approximately 3.5" on the longest length and weighing about 1 pound, 8 ounces. Here are the pictures:
-
Could this be a door stop? When I was growing up I remember seeing etched door stops.
-
Much too small. 3.5" at the longest dimension, about 1.5" - 2" in height. I tried hunting for information on houses what's the 1804 and 1886 dates but no luck.
-
Im searching as well....
-
Beats me !! I have not found anything !!
-
It could be this house was torn down in 1886
-
What town did you find this ? Generally they do not travel far ! Need to look locally !!
-
This came from eBay, the seller is based in Pompano Florida.

Talesof, I can tell you that a wooden home like this IS NOT typical for the Pompano Beach, FL area (of which I grew up in the area). There are some historic wooden homes....but typically they were made from sturdier material even in the 1800's due to hurricanes/climate. Most likely from somewhere else.

I'd think New England would be the best bet.
-
I agree, it definitely has an eastern U.S. look to it. Maybe from Virginia on over, and it doesn't look southern.
-
I am still blank !
-
This one may have to remain an unsolved myster. But keep it in mind, sooner or later one of us will see this place!
-
I've not come up with anything as well. The search continues....
-
Looks to be a governmental building of some sort ! Not a residence !
-
I had not thought of that!

I agree Mart...or ultra wealthy back in the day!
