Update: This is not a foo dog, but a Singha, a lion-like creature in Thai folklore, which is a protector, signifying strength, leadership, endurance and other strong attributes. This singha may have been on a gate or temple.
So I got a good deal on a foo dog, a pretty big foo dog in fact! it's over 15" tall, 9" wide and was purchased at an antique store in Thailand. All I know is that it is covered with layers of multicolored paint and appears to have been some type of architectural element. Maybe a gate or corner of a roof? Any info would be very helpful.

Ordinarily I would say beside a fireplace But this one llookks more like an outside element ! Door entrance ? I think would have been a pair of them !
-
Very cool. I wish I had one on each side of our front door.
-
Hope it scares COVID away!

Yes, foo dogs are typically in pairs, a male and a female. This one probably was split from its mate or it was damaged. They were considered guardians, so they would be put at an entrance. In my house our bedroom was added onto the original front door. So I had the perfect place for it, guarding the entrance to the old part of our house.

Just find something,, another animal of about the same size for the other side ! Will give it something to guard !

Since a Foo Dog is actually a cat (Lion) get a cat statue!

This is not a dog. But it's called Singh. It is an animal in Thai literature. Usually it is a handicraft used to decorate the staircase of a temple or palace.

Oh wow interesting! I will look them up! Thank you!
-
Sure enough! Wbd2021 you are absolutely right, I have a singha! Thank you very much, I would never have known this without your post.

Good for you Tales,, was out of my area !
-
Yes this was definitely out of my area too. I learned something else. In Thailand they have been making Singha beer since 1933, and they have this really cool singha logo. So cool in fact that I bought two of their T-shirts!
-
Always something new to learn here! Like your shirts!
-
I like them too !!
