Title: samuel howitt aquatints, need help please!!
Post by: irv on December 08, 2005, 10:01:20 AM
Hello, I am trying to find info on the specific aquatints I have.  They are by Samuel Howitt, published in 1801 and 1803.  Two of them are signed by howitt 1791 and 1792.  I can find many howitt etchings out their but not one picture or refrence to these particular ones.  If any one can help an exhuasted rookie it would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

the thing about aquatints in particular is that the printing plate wears very quickly, because the ground is so fine - hence the quality of impressions from the same plate varies enormously.

thus a generic price guide is not really much use, knowledgable collectors are only really interested in early impressions.
