Title: New to antiques, need help with value?
Post by: charbel on December 18, 2005, 05:17:04 PM
I have a dining room set, but we have decided to keep the dining room table. I believe the tag says "Excel Mfg. Co" under that it says "XL" under that it says "Dining Room Furniture of Quality" Rockford Illinois.

I have a Server Hutch and a China cabinet, both look like they are mahagoney.

I will try to get some pictures up soon.

China Cabinet:

This is what the label says on the back:

To: Cornell and Dagget
          Suspension Bridge

Town: Niagara Falls

Via: Illinois Ctr. RR     State: New York

Excel Manufacturing Company
Rockford, Illinois 13251

No: 278 China Closet      #263 WAL

^^^^ That is on a metal label attached on the back of the closet..

Any ideas?

sorry you're disappointed - I too searched.  I couldn't find that company.  I tried a site called Furniture World which has yielded results for me in the past.  Nothing this time.

DB is correct re:  walnut

and yes pics help enormously.  Best wishes    KB

.......and a howdy to you to charbel. Make sure you read the last part of KB's post. It's a free site with free advice. All information is based on our free time and knowledge shared with you and it doesn't cost a dime.

Your furniture company was formed in 1906 and they made Excel starting in 1907. You'll have to post photos so we can determine whether it's circa 1907 or 1957.

Hi again - just dawned on me - there's a zip code on the furniture maker - If I remember correctly the 5 digit zip was from late 50's or maybe early 1960's?  Might help fix the era.    KB
