Post by: christina on December 26, 2005, 03:43:09 PM
Can anyone tell me about the Clement C Moore poem, twas the night before Christmas? I have one that looks like it is signed.  On the bottom it say Clement C Moore 1862, March 13th. originally written many years ago.

He died in 1863. The poem first appeared in 1823 and has been published numerous times and illustrated by many. I don't know if your copy is signed by him.

If it is signed by him can you tell me if it may be worth anything?

IF you believe it might be signed by him, I would photograph several angles of the book,  ie: text, cover, pages, closeups of sig, etc. and send copies to Sotheby's and Christie's in New York. Send a self addressed stamped envelope and tell them all you can about the book, dates, etc. If it is signed then yes, it is worth a tidy sum.
