Title: Brass charger/tray
Post by: csqueen on April 12, 2006, 09:40:47 PM
I have a large brass/charger tray that I got from my grandmother.  It has etchings of fish, flowers, and some other type of animal (lion???) with a pretty scalloped edge.  I cannot find any type of makers mark but it is numbered 117.  Does anyone know what this is or where it came from?  Any information would be appreciated.

Age depends on Grandmother's age - to an extent - these brass trays were popular in the 1890's - 1920's - - Many were made in India - - tables had brass tops in Victorian parlors - but brass trays have never gone out of style - they were popular in the 1960's - 1970's - - also made in India.  They are a classic design.  So if you want to run some google searches try this -

and I'm assuming here that it's a heavy brass sort of flat tray, and not the brass finish "raised design" also popular in the 1960's as wall hangings.  Best wishes.     KB
