Title: AUSTRIA mark
Post by: kuhlone on July 13, 2003, 10:23:00 AM
I have a painted vase that has the mark of AUSTRIA in blue-green letting underneath 4 crossed lines (kinda of like a crooked tic tac toe box).  Any ideas of the maker, origin, or age?  The paintings on the vase are signed FA Stahl.

It's my understanding that if it reads simply "Austria" it was probably made before 1920, when the words "Made in ...." were required by U.S. law.  Can't tell you much else.

follow links to porcelain links - there is a Meissen mark that could be stated to look like tic tac toe
