Title: Antique Rifle? Help?
Post by: joeshacks on July 15, 2007, 11:16:58 PM
My mother has an antique rifle that was passed down to her by her father, she doesn't know very much at all about it, and we are curious about its history. We would like to identify it and learn more about it, many pictures of it can be found here.

Thank you for any help you can give us.

i hope this helps a little, the lock mechanism is known as a dog lock firing system,it originated around the 17th century.and was broght to america . it was used in jamestown and alot of frontiersmen adopted this type of rifle and done some customizing of their own. It looks to be maybe virginian or kentucky.about all i know hope it helps also if you get a chance measure the barrell by itself it should be about 42 inches.

It's of Arabic origin, 17th Century, most likely. Does the rifle have any sort of writing or scribe or engraving anywhere on it? That would go a long way as far as tracking it down.

Please let me know,
