Title: Silver/Crystal Barrel Decanter
Post by: Weered on October 19, 2008, 07:41:53 PM
Hi guys, new to the forum. Stumbled across you guys in my search to find out how old this is and where it came from.

It is a Silver mounted (Not Plated) crystal whiskey decanter (I think). I cannot find a damn thing anywhere on it.

It entered my family 70 years ago when it was purchased by my great grand parents in Europe as far as I know it is from Europe. It was in a trunk for about 10 years and I don't have any silver cleaner but I managed to shine it up a bit.

The hallmark on it is a shield with a man holding a bow and arrow in it then immediately beside that graphic is a 1714 (Probably not a date but I'd love to know what it means). My camera blows and I don't have a magnifying glass to blow it up.

Can you guys steer me in the right direction?

Hard to determine without the hallmark being seen. You can research the hallmark at http://www.925-1000.com (http://www.925-1000.com). I hope this helps.
