These were bought in an antique store over 40 years ago. They're all brass (even the base) and are very heavy. Anyone have any ideas on age and country of origin? I guess while I'm at it, anyone have any thoughts on worth?

Jut a guess but I would say they are for a fireplace, one on each side and the logs are placed on the legs extending in the back to keep the logs off the floor of the Fireplace.

no intent to confuse. late empire also known as late classical or second Empire was from 1860 to about 1880
