Title: Royal Albert bone china
Post by: Tyler09 on April 04, 2009, 03:58:26 PM
Just a couple of questions about Royal Albert (may also be relevant to other makers).

1, Does anyone know why some pieces have the copyright date on them and some don't? for example I have 2 similar plates from the same series (old english roses) one has copyright 1939 the other does not?

2, I have come accross quite a few pieces where the makers mark has been damaged, ie - a cross scratched through it which looks deliberate, i think this is known as "spoiling" but could be mistaken. Anyone know why this is done?

I'm sure this will be fairly simple for anyone that collects Royal Albert but i've tried and failed to find this out, if anyone's interested this website is really good for finding out about royal albert - http://www.royalalbertpatterns.com/

Thanks.

old english roses has been around since 1925 & a number of changes in there trade mark's & X usally indicates a factory flaw

Totally agree with D&B...some are made after the others....same pattern...different times.

Also agree about factory flaws for one reason or another!
