Title: UPDATE - Lancashire Watch Company Ltd - London & Prescot Pocket Watch.
Post by: neilhutch on May 21, 2009, 05:35:52 AM
Hello All,

I'm new to this forum but hopefully you can help me out with the following:

I've recently inherited from my late Father/Mother-in-law a London & Prescot Pocket Watch, Silver.

The pocket watch in question is made by the “Lancashire Watch Co Ltd – LONDON & PRESCOT) I don’t have any photo’s of this as of yet but if you could shed any further light on the history of this item then I would be very grateful. The condition of the watch is in need of some attention as there is a slight dent on the reverse of the watch and the glass face has been chipped on the edge.

Either way if you could give any further details on the history of this watch and roughly what this type of item would retail at today then that would be great. Any info on the watch would be great as I've had little luck searching the internet.

Best Regards

Neil Hutchinson

Well , it sure would help to see any makers' marks , when you get around to posting pics ... & maybe one of the I/S of the works too ?

Also , is the watch 'working' ?

If you don't know already , Prescot , in the 19th century , was the 'center' of the Lancashire clock & watch industry in Liverpool , England .

An old rumor has it that sometimes companies would 'job-out' watches from Prescot & have them stamped @ the makers with "Prescot" , with the contracting company's name either before or after the stamp .

Just using the word "Prescot" lended some degree of what we'd today call 'product recognition' for buyers in England .

I really can't say much about your watch until you let 'us' take a peek @ it , though .

When dealing with pocketwatches, an in-focus closeup picture of the movement is necessary.

Could you please post a closer pic of the watch fob?  (The fob is the medallion attached by the chain to the pocket watch - it's purpose was to assist in locating and removing the watch from a pocket in clothing. Some were originally coded or numbered to assist in return to the owner.)
