Title: platter & plate ?
Post by: Keith on June 08, 2009, 01:27:13 PM
The one is 15-1/2'' platter, the other is an 8'' plate.I have seen the mark on the bottom so i'm sure it's nothing uncommon, but i would like to know how old they are, also if they have any value. The mark says Semi Vitreous,EDWIN M KNOWLES.I notice that they both have a ''spiderweb'' effect in the finish. Were they made that way?

Knowles is really good about dating it product.  There should be a series of numbers under the hallmarks the year date should be there.  Knowles have a semi Collector base, not real big but the really good shape ones will sell in the $20.00 range.  As for the Spiderweb effect, that is called grazing, which is really common with knowles products.

Which does raise a question about Knowles product.  I have acquired lots of knowles over the past few months, all seem to have the issue of grazing and also brown spots.  Is this a quality issue of knowles or just that they were common and abused liked washed in a dishwasher.  The reason I have so many is I thought they were something old and special so I bought them. then after learning about them I find they are kinda mediocore in value.  I know another rookie question  ;D
