Title: Old painting of fishing boats
Post by: Skinny on July 28, 2009, 08:36:28 AM
I bought this painting for forty dollars at an antique store several years ago. I love marine paintings, but I don't know anything about this one. I don't think its a famous artist. If I had to guess the age I would say its not an antique, but maybe from the forties of fifties? It's big, almost five feet long. The frame is some sort of light wood with quite a few little pockmarks in it. If the artist isn't well known and it's not really old, is it worth anything?

It is on a sheet of canvas, stretched over and stapled to a wooden frame.

it was worth, the $40.00 Dollars. I would'nt be surprised to see it bring a $150.00 Dollars at auction.

Thanks, I'm happy enough with that. I think the rigging and sails on the boats are quite nicely done.

I'll go along with D&b on this one @ around 150 (USD) .

Also with Skinny about it not being antique .

The only 'Marini' I know much about is Marino Marini , as this one's not from him .
