Title: American Radiator Cast Iron Wall Plaque
Post by: curiousity on November 12, 2009, 09:29:14 PM
Could anyone tell me about this picture?  It's very heavy and I'm not sure if this is gilded or painted and it's cast iron     Also need to know value.  The words "American Radiator Company" is on it.   Thank you

Welcome to the forum , curiousity .

Simply test with a magnet to determine if it's cast iron .

Here's an American Radiator Co. plaque , 19"x17" (cast iron with gold wash) at auction in 2004 ... same figs/details as yours .

I was wondering if you just bought your item , on Sept. 6th of this year ?

I found this at a yard sale.   Couldn't find its worth or any info about it - even had Skinners give me a verbal value but she didn't know much about it.   It is cast iron but cannot tell if it is painted gold or gilded.  It's quite heavy and I've read The American Standard  Company bought the American Radiator Company back in the 20's or 30's.  Any suggestions for more resources?  Size is 18 x 15   Thanks very much
