Title: Mexico Wood Box
Post by: Dean Perdue on December 07, 2009, 10:20:18 PM
This was my grandmothers who used to travel quite a bit.
All I know on it's age was it's before the 1970's.
Measures 11" x 6.5" x 3"
Any idea's on it are appreciated.
Thanks.

The term República Mexicana ("Mexican Republic") was used in the 1836 Constitutional Laws (the third official name of Mexico).  However, the term Republica S Mexicana is very unusual and most likely for the tourist trade in the early to mid 1940's.

Most likely a stationary box as it was so "in" at the time and people definitely took stationary everywhere they went!

Nice box , Dean ....

Good suggestion , KC .

Are there any 'wear' marks i/s of the box (i.e. - did grandma pack pistolas , etc) ?

No pistols Regularjoe but man did she have the antiques and really knew how to display them.
Wish I was interested back then and I only have a few of her things to remember her by. :-[
