Hello all! Glad to find this site! I've been searching for hours trying to find something on my piece, but cannot find anything even close that resembles it.
I inherited a tri fold mirror from my grandmother who was originally from Kentucky. I really don't know anything about it, except that she's had it since she was little. I've searched for markings and cannot find anything except for this (VIIII) on the bottom.
The mirror weighs about 24 lbs and is made out of some type of wood (I know nothing of wood types). It's about 28 1/2 inches in height, and 19 inches in width (with the doors closed). When the doors are open it's about 38 1/2 inches wide. It has an angel figure painted on front as well. I'm just looking for any information anyone can give me at all- even what period it may have been made in. Thanks !!!

Wow how fortunate you are to have something so lovely from your grandma! The condition looks beautiful and the nails look like there are a couple of sizes that came from the same form since they seem to have the same flaw. They look like they pre-date mass produced nails. Can you take a couple of photos showing the mirror and the construction of the casing? I think that will help people determine more about it

Just beautiful, I hope to see more pics. It's in great condition, you can tell she really loved it.
-
I sure will- thanks for the reply! Please ignore the dirty mirror b.t.w.
Let me know if there is a more specific area I should photograph! Thanks! :)

My first thought's were 1930's Cathedral Dressing Mirror.it is a Cathedral style dressing mirror. But it's English. circa 1790 to about 1850. $ 350.00 To $ 450.00 Dollars.

Thanks so much!!! Any ideas of who may have manufactured it? I really apprieciate any info. at all! Thanks again for your time!

Am I correct that it is only a few feet tall and not full length?
If so, these were used in fine clothing/shoe stores. English. Possibly early 1800's.

Take a peek at those Rose head nails.

Thanks for the note D&b....I would lean to later 1790's and very early 1800's pretty much like you said.
Nice Rose Head Nails!
The piece looks to be in really good shape. A Beaut!

Wow it is really in amazing shape for its age. Beautiful piece I hope your family will treasure it and never part with it, I know I wouldn't!

(KC) yes, it is only a couple ft. tall- not full length. I use it on my dresser.

taleofthesevenseas- I would NEVER part with it. My grandma passed quited a while ago and I actually requested this piece from her before she passed (I was probably only 15 when I recieved it) but I've always loved it and thought it beautiful! I am so happy to have it- I only wish I could have asked her more about it.

That's great. I always love to hear stories like that. I think all of us hope we'll end up with grandkids who will love our old things as much as we do!

Glad to hear that you are going to hang on to this. Try and make notes on anything that you learn about it and keep it close to the piece to be passed on! Note the story of your family!!!!!
