Title: 1890 walking cane

Hi

Our names are Jayne and Gary and we are from UK.


We have got a walking cane which as an inscription on the 9ct gold handle saying: -

' Presented by R Gratto to Alex Watt Esq, San Francisco California 1890'

We have had it valued by the BBC programme 'Antiques Roadshow' but we would like to know more about the people whose names are on the cane.  
We would appreciate any useful websites which could possibly help us with our search on these people are even the company (if any) that made the cane.

welcome to the u.s.a what a tough question. aside from the fact your gold registers 37.5 in gold. I could only find mention of one.richard gratto liveing in san fransisco in 1883. which more than like'ly mean's they never made our history book's :(
