Hello everyone!
I discovered this site while searching online to try to find out exactly what I have here.
I am cleaning out a house that has been in my family for many decades, and came across this cup with lid type item, as well as an old lamp.
Both appear to be in excellent condition.
I was wondering if anyone could possible lead me in the right direction as to what the cup is and what it may have been used for, if at all, and what it may be worth if anything.
The only markings on it are on the very bottom where it says Japan.
As for the lamp, I didn't notice any markings on it at all.

Wish I could answer your questions but don't know.Thinking you'll get some opinions though.
Lamp looks pretty exotic and in nice shape but I'm really diggin that table.

Nice items you are sharing Thanks bb66chevelle. I once owned a 66 ;D. Loved that car. Anyway on to more important stuff ;D. As for the cup, I pretty sure that is a steamer cup, Some cup come with lids to help the tea steam a bit. Usually with the use of tea bags. At least this is what I heard, never used or even tested that therory yet. So if someone else really know what the use of the steamer cup is please let this now semi-cultured guy know ::). However with the mark of japan I'm sure you are looking at a late 40's at the earliest on the date, but I would say looks 50's to 60's. These cups with a saucer would get you 30 bucks, just a cup with the lid half that. Pending condition of the item, must be excellent condition.
As for the lamp, I will have to sit on the fence post and watch, really intresting lamp. Maybe I go look at it close again and see if I can guess without eating crow.

Have some Japanese tea cups from the 40's in the same colors/deco that we inherited and they say made in Japan as well. The lid is to help retain the heat and are highly desirable by collectors and tea drinkers! Average tea cup/saucer sells for $15 - $25. Set with a lid also $30 - $35.
Better think about the lamp...........

As for my 66 Chevelle, I bought it from the original owner in 1994!
It's just a Malibu so I decided to do a complete frame off restoration on it myself adding a big block with a nice blower. I have alot of time, sweat, and money into it as building and drag racing muscle cars is a serious passion of mine. Here is a picture of what the car looks like now....

But as for the items I posted, I am going to go back to the house and will look to see if there is a saucer that belongs to the cup.
It's funny that someone mentioned the table that the lamp is on as I had one fella come to the house to pick up some free couches I posted on Craigslist, and he noticed the table and offered $40 for it. Not knowing what it was, I passed on his offer.
I'm not looking to get rich by any means, but I do need to empty out the house of this stuff and just wanted to be fair on it's value.
Thats why I'm very happy that I stumbled across this site and met you fine folks! :)
I also found a very old typewriter and a coin collection.

Not likely. to be A saucer with the cup because these are known as '' Footed '' Cup etc.

Believe it or not D&B...I have over 20 cups with lids and saucers that are footed!!!!! Go figure!!!!
I do agree after looking through older ones/right after WWII that saucers weren't as common with lidded cups. However, more modern times they are 3 pieced again.

My grandparents drove a Chevelle, (I think it was a '62?) for eons. It was the first car I ever drove. Yours looks great and thanks for the memories!

LOL not exactly, more like cautiously creeping down the very quiet streets of Willows CA in the 1970's with my Uncle Frank instructing me! It was my first driving lesson! My grandparents Chevelle was nuthin' like this one! White, stock, with blue rubber tiki mats on the floor as I recall!
