Title: Neglected Gas Pump
Post by: judboyd on April 15, 2010, 06:15:41 PM
This belonged to my grandfather who died over thirty years ago.  Do you know any places in the south, near Florida that restores gas pumps?  What is the value in it's current condition?

Here is a shot of the bottom part of the pump.  I forgot to mention that the globe is intact.

Visible gas pumps are worth a good deal of money, even in that condition. As long as there are no major cracks or breaks, it should be worth a minimum of $650, maybe much more to a serious collector or restorer. I've seen a few on American Pickers, and they pay at least that much for pumps in rusty condition. And they are low-ballers. :)

Yes, I agree with hosman.  I saw that AP episode also and they sold them both to one guy before they even left the state I think.  Visible gas pumps are in demand.

Totally agree!

Are you wanting to redo it for yourself or sell?

I also wanted to add that in my area (Washington State) the fully restored visible pumps usually don't last a day or two on craigslist. Asking prices are between $2,000 and $4,000. People will happily pay it because they are fairly rare. But I'm sure restoration is a pretty penny. Worth it though if you want to make the most money. :)

I would prefer to keep it after it's restored, however if the right price was offered, I would have to let it go.  Thanks for the responses.

Jud, there are sites online that deal with do-it-yourself restoration.  Not being overly familiar with all the states I'm not
much help in the 'location' area, but just search Antique Gas Pump Restoration' and I'm sure you'll locate some great
resources.

Would love to see the Before and After pics. ;)
