Looks to be gold applique the bird reminds me of a phoenix. I looked all over it and couldn't find a makers hallmark. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks to be either Japanese or Chinese. Looks old too.

Would be really hard to place a date and maker on this item. Could be Asian but if it is, was made for export. However based on the fact it is extra fancy, Unique looking that alone would get you maybe into the 50 dollar value, but would say about 30 Ebay dollars in value, and would guess at early 1900's in date, but for sure pre 1920's or most likely would have at least a county mark.

My guess goes like this :
The motif of your item is Japanese , with some typical Asian elements .
The combination of Crysanthemums , Paulownia tree , Hou-ou (phoenix) & possibly stylized Peonies all indicate post-Meiji period to me .
I'm also guessin' that it's from the Nagasaki Prefecture ; possibly depicting (in the central 'beige' area) the island of Iki (A.K.A. Ishu) .
Nice bowl (I think it's a rice 'serving' bowl), up2no6ood .

Wow fancyp! You never cease to amaze me! Great info!
-
It's still (kinda) guessin' from images , though .

I believe that the bowl is not Chinese. Suspect KC is spot on attributing it to Japanese
-
Sorry KC. Should have said Fancypants attributed the bowl to Japanese origin. In any event, the bowl is not Chinese IMO.

I actually sent the info to Fancy via ESP so that Fancy could voice the information! LOL So you were right! (Couldn't resist)
