One more thing for tonight. Came across this piece, I remember my mom thinking it was worth a lot. I saw the same thing on Ebay for $595. That was a 12", mine is 14" but does have a chip. Other than that it's in great shape. My question is, how much will that chip lessen the value? Here's some pics, note the chip. Thanks!
-
I am no expert but Roseville seems to have stagnated or decline in popularity. The Roseville at local estate sales just sits there. Chips are a BIG problem unless the piece is very rare.

I'm once again curious if this item has hallmarks to help date the item. I did see one on Ebay go for a pretty good tag, and started to brush up on my Roseville stuff, actually just looking at this name for the first time ;). I have learned one thing about glass ceramic and Dinnerware, the collectors are picky for sure, even me now. If it has a chip I won't buy or sale it, cause too much headache, a little over 200 sales and 4 cases with chips and etc. If you do wish to sale a item like this, just listing it on Ebay will kill the value, your best bet here is for sure local hand to hand sale, or Auction, if it has $$$.00 to it then this will fair you better IMO of course. Sorry seem to be getting chatting tonight, wonderful item and would really like to see the mark.

Should mention I found all these links long after selling two Roseville jardinieres to a dealer for $10 a piece
.....they had belonged to my mother and my aunt. Didn't know any better at the time. :'(

Yikes!

I've bought & sold a few Roseville pieces through the years , but only 'prototypes' .
The thing that will distinguish (easy to spot) these types is that the bottom (or base) of the item will have 'handwritten data' that documents/describes the specific type/color of glaze used on each portion of the motif of the item .
The writing will be UNDER the glaze , not on top of it ; typically in blue , but not always .
These types of Roseville can bring large $ , so keep an eye out , all !
-
Regularjoe, now you got me curious about that 'handwritten data' on the bottom, but you didn’t say what it was, so I checked my “pride & joy” pieces, a …..
Roseville “Peony” Sienna Brown (yellow) pitcher and 8 mugs #1326 7 ½
….. but you will have to tell if the two (2) 'handwritten’ marks on it are what you are talking about. And what does the incised “17” to the left of the ‘R' represent?
Thanks much, Sam

I didn't get too descriptive on purpose (or post any images either) , cogar .
I have not seen any counterfeit items like them , but I'd hate to give any exact data here (where , perhaps , a future browser might 'get an idea' ;) ;) ;) ) .
Generally , what I was posting about would look like a shopping list does , handwritten & with an artists' hand-inscribed/incised sig in the pottery .
Also I've only bought those items that were hand-carved (non cast) .
These types of Roseville can sell in the $2k & up range (quite rare) ... some call them 'experimental' , 'trial glaze' ... but I say prototype .
I hardly know beans about any Roseville besides this special niche , so I'd have to research you questions about your cool little piece(s) , cogar .
As an unexact example of what I mean by 'shopping list' , usually going from 'top to bottom' (not side-by-side or 'running together' ) , would look something like :
tree -175 br
leaves- 17grn
body- 534beig
sky - 1433blu
lake-982blu
flwr-311yel
rim-67dblu
"markbassett.com" is also a resource for info on Roseville .

:( :'( :'( ...... thanks joe. I was thinking maybe those funny marks might be a "code" designation for a recipe.
-
I like the crying faces cogar......never seen that one before! LOL
-
Hey cogar ... I spoke with a friend today , about the 'prototype' Roseville stuff & he said there was a recent "Antiques Roadshow" that had video of such an item ... it was held in Phoenix , Az .
This should satisfy your curiousity (& your eyes) about these fancy items !
-
Thanks, Fancypants, but I'm on "dial-up" so I don't even try to upload videos.
I wasa justa sheding a widdle "teardrop" because my pitcher wasn't a fancy item, but I'm still happily satisfied with what I got.
With no chips, no cracks, no blemishes, ..... what do you think they are worth .... even though there is no "recipe" on the bottom of the pitcher, to wit:
-
Hey cogar .... I am shocked & happy to see that I'm not the only one who's into "vintage" on-line stuff (dial-up) ! :o
(All of my boots & shoes still have laces too !)
Very nice set of Roseville items you've got there , mister .
Thanks for posting the image of your full set !
I don't know beans about most Roseville , since I'm also ( don't tell anyone ) known as/ post as 'regularjoe2' here . ;)
-
Hey cogar (& anybody else interested) ... here's an image of the Roseville 'experimental' vase I'd mentioned in an earlier post here .
You can see the 2.08 min video & view the glaze markings on it (it does take a little while on dial-up , but it's worth it to see) . Phoenix , AZ show , hour #3.
I've never seen these types of marks "published" for the common consumption on any video media before & I'm surprised that they really did it !
Estimated value - $3500 to $6000 .
