Does any one know much about Royal Navy Washstands. I have been tasked by my mother. lol. To research same. Item is in Sydney and we want to find out as much as we can so we don't sell it to cheap. Bought it for $6,300 AUD 10 years ago during a deceased estate and recently was offered $9,000 by a client visiting my mothers house. Needless to say the person wouldn't eloborate what he knew about stand and is persistant about buying it.. So help me out with any relevant web links or information so mum can sell it for correct price and go on a well deserved holiday. I'm a suck of a son aren't I?
Thank one and all Dan :)

Welcome Illybronte!
We really need to see a picture (several if possible) of your washstand. Is there any documentation to go with your washstand as to the ship it came from? Who it originally belonged to? Any pictures to corroborate the background history?
Does it resemble any of these?
This one has a history attached to it so it brings more at auction:

IT IS SO GREAT TO SEE YOU POSTING AGAIN D&b!!!!!!
-
Agree with D&B, I would think that your piece would have to have enormous provenance to be worth the amount that was paid for it. I saw one similar to the Collingswood washstand above in a local antique store and I recall the price being about $200 USD. It would have to have been aboard during a major battle, belonged to prominent person to command that kind of price.

if you paid $6300 10 years ago you must know a lot more about it than your saying, what was catalogue description

Been thinkin' the same as gingertomantiques .
Can you post a little bit more info please , lilybronte ?
