Title: Settee with twisted wooden parts

I have an old settee with matching rocker.It has unusual twisted wooden parts. The leather upholstery is in very poor condition.I am curious if is worth repairing these pieces and if this twisted woodwork has a name.

could you post photos showing the full settee & rocker along with close ups of any hardware(tacks, nails, screws)?? I would hold off on refinishing as that sometimes can devalue some antique pieces. I would get a little more info on them first.  D&B along with  KC are fantastic furniture information encyclopedias  ;) !!!! maybe they missed this.

I agree on holding off on the refinishing as wendy suggested.  Sometimes the original finish and upholstery ups the value considerably.  Looks neat.  As to what they are called, I think the rocker would be 'twisted sister'.  Not sure what the settee would be named...Oliver maybe?  Ok, just joking as I do not have a clue or have ever seen twisted wood furniture but it looks neat.
