Title: two portraits

What I know:  -style somewhere between 1680 and 1750

-similar style to that of John Hoppner

Would like to know who the subjects are and the artist if possible.

Great portraits! Are you able to post pictures of the back of them? That could help with dating. If they are really old, the frames do not look original. They look like they have been made to look old. Something about the expressions on their faces makes me believe they are early 1900's. But I am definitely not an expert. Do they belong to you or are they currently in an auction? Just asking because of the numbers on them. Hope someone here can help!

Here are some examples of really old frames. Notice the chipping and splitting of the wood. And the crackling of the finish. Then again, those could be old portraits with new matching frames. Pictures of the backs would definitely help. :)

Welcome to the forum , christoph77 .

For starters , IMO , these two portraits were done by different artists .

The painting of the male was done with a more critical/dimentional eye than the portrait of the female (proportional accuracy of the physiology of the aspects of the human face differ considerably) .

I'd suggest that you inspect , with a 10x (or higher) magnifying glass/loupe , both painting & look for the same types of brush-strokes .
I suspect that you'll find that they differ quite a bit .

That being said , I'll agree with hosman321 about really liking to view a few images of the backs of your paintings , so as to have a few more clues to go on .

They are certainly a couple of cool-looking items .

They are not in auction but were purchased at an antique market for about $160.

I will try to get back to you soon with pictures of the backs.
