Another piece I can find NO info on it. approximately 4 1/2" across. Looks like a clam or scallop. Glass lined and has a small butter knife with it. I will get a pic later today or tomorrow. It is still in the original box. Guessing WWII vintage. ( when he was stationed in England.) Thanks for looking. and any help you can give me. Steer me in the right direction, website, antique shop... anything...

could you please post photos of the original box???

Also pics of any tiny hallmarks on the shell. If it is silver it would most likely be marked to that effect. It's lovely, I'll say that much! :)

The only thing it says anywhere is " Made in England" on the Piece of the shell that stays attached when open. I am guessing it is stainless, but I don't know. Here is a pic of the box.

No idea what it's worth, but that's adorable!

Since the box your item came in mentions it , I'd say that it is electro-plated with silver .

Agree, if it says Electro plate that would be silverplate. Shell dishes are all over the place, and have been really popular for the holiday table. It is a bit different and nicer then most I have ran into or have. Around Holiday time on ebay you can sell these, but not for much at all. Too many are available. Your Item is most likey Post 40's to early 60's in age, this was the time when silverplate was made almost exclusively for the Holiday table. You have a really nice sample of a Shell dish.

Agree that it is plated!
In great shape with the glass liner and with a knife! If in impeccable shape $15 - $25.
