Bought this at an antique store-I just wonder how common framed "tile" is. Hope you can see the marks on the back. Any info?
-
I think what you've got there is a Meissen tile by the hallmark. I know they did make decorative tiles, usually for around stoves or fireplaces. I think it should be quite collectable, but will let the others chime in on that since I don't have a lot of experience with these. Meissen marks are VERY difficult to date by the way. I think you'll probably have an easier time determining the age by the style of the clothing on the child.

^^^how kind of you-much more than I knew all the time I have had this--just curious would you think the 40's from the clothing of the girl?
-
I'm not an expert, but I was thinking 1920's to 1940's. That little headband looks more like the 20's to me. Maybe someone else here will have more info.

sugarcube, can you check your tile and see what is imprinted here.......?
Maybe even a shot of it too ;)
-
first of all sapphire-you are the best.
I would take a pic but there is nothing on the space you indicated-or anywhere else on it but the two red marks shown.

Guess being up for 18 hours isn't helping my eyesight ;)

made me smile--and made me look--
-
Probably just something scratched it or a trick of light.

I hesitate to say that I looked three more times- in the smooth part there seems to be an "O P" stamped on it but it's so faint I don't know if it is original or if it was added later? Really not sure, not at like the red markings.

I am surprised to see anything at all-goes to show you how close you have to look-it all stumps me

Looks Like Lettering to me too! Great Catch sapphire!

I so agree-but still leads me to >??? any more thoughts on where it's "home" is?
-
