Title: cutest tile
Post by: sugarcube on August 27, 2010, 05:00:32 PM
Bought this at an antique store-I just wonder how common framed "tile" is.  Hope you can see the marks on the back.  Any info?

I think what you've got there is a Meissen tile by the hallmark. I know they did make decorative tiles, usually for around stoves or fireplaces. I think it should be quite collectable, but will let the others chime in on that since I don't have a lot of experience with these. Meissen marks are VERY difficult to date by the way. I think you'll probably have an easier time determining the age by the style of the clothing on the child.

^^^how kind of you-much more than I knew all the time I have had this--just curious would you think the 40's from the clothing of the girl?

I'm not an expert, but I was thinking 1920's to 1940's. That little headband looks more like the 20's to me. Maybe someone else here will have more info.

first of all sapphire-you are the best.

I would take a pic but there is nothing on the space you indicated-or anywhere else on it but the two red marks shown.

Probably just something scratched it or a trick of light.

I hesitate to say that I looked three more times- in the smooth part there seems to be an "O P" stamped on it but it's so faint I don't know if it is original or if it was added later?  Really not sure, not at like the red markings.
