Title: Little Cannon
Post by: floydianoise on September 11, 2010, 05:34:47 PM
So, I know nothing about this little cannon.  No makers marks.  Anyone seen one before?  Date?  Origin?  Value?

Some small cannons like this were made to fire blackpowder charges.  I am not sure if this is one of them.  The "ears" on the base look like they are meant to be screwed to a block of wood.

Interesting. When were those made?

They have been made for years and some models are still made.  Here is a site that is nuts about cannons ...http://www.cannon-mania.com/beware.htm

Neat item there are also burglar alarms and even traps that are set up in a similar fashion, is there a hole at the top of the handle for attaching a cord or tripwire?

Heres an example.  Yours may be more for fun but hard to tell how it functions.

They also produced toy cannons that fired wooden balls ,  marbles, rubber balls  along with the black powderpowder charges as wayward mentioned. With no markings measurements & positive verification if it was mounted to wood ,spring loaded and such are a must to help identify this piece.  hopefully  the site waywards offered can give you some answers.
