Post by: harysunaryo on October 26, 2010, 08:26:34 AM
Soup Bowl from late Qing Dynasty (Dao Guang)
Emperor Daoguang about 150 years ago. It's a polychrome bowl with Daoguang seal mark at the bottom. Imported from China and used by Strait Chinese in Indonesia.
diameter of mouth is 19.5cm.

I have sent harysunaro a PM because these two posts by him/her appear to be only "For Sale" posts.  I am not sure that harysunaro understands the use of the forums.

I see the USD amount has been removed but I am still not sure if the post is for a question or just informative with pics.

Was wondering what his question was ,  but if asking that type of money the characters should at least be held in the correct position.

Wendy, I am thick as a brick when it comes to Chinese/Japanese characters...do you mean the characters on the bottom of the bowl or something else?

Sorry Wayward the characters on the bottom of the bowl , Needs to be rotated clockwise. I am no expert but it makes it very hard to research & compare marks if they are not in the correct position.

Appears to be a nice little bowl , Chinese Export Porcelain (S.E. Asian market) with a "Guangxu Nian Zhi" marking (although the image is a little unclear to my eyes) .

Great little bowl that should only be purchased in person , IMO .

He originally had USD 3,500 on here too but took it off after I PM'ed him as to his intent and also commented after his post.  Moderators do watch this stuff but we also try to give the benefit of the doubt and allow someone to explain themselves.

Thank you wayward,  Good to have you as moderator.   I would still like to know if this is really that old and worth that.  I know the other item sure look new to me and I would of questioned that, but this one I'm just not sure about yet.

Yes , thanks for keepin' the site non-commercial , waywardangler !

In my limited experience with buying "Guangxu Nian Zhi" marked items (spoons , bowls & vases) in the 70' , 80's & 90's ...... they were all generally from the late-to-very-late 1800's .

Although I am a bit of a bargain-hound with smaller items like the one that the OP 'listed' , I've NEVER seen anyone in their right mind pay anywhere near the $3500 price mentioned for a rather pedestrian item like 'harysunaryo' posted .

I have seen high prices for actual (and very beautifully crafted) Imperial wares from the Qing era , though , ironlord1963 .
