Title: carved wood captains and pirates?
Post by: allypeez on October 30, 2010, 05:54:07 PM
I just purchased these today from a thrift store that every now and then i go to when they have 50% off. There were about 15 of these guys but I was not really sure if they are folk art , all variable kind of interesting faces and expressions, but not sure if I should buy the rest. There is not marking what so ever on them. Please may someone let me know? Thank you

I've always seen these guys at alot of beach souvenir shops.  Not sure if they're rare, but I have seen them before...

I agree, all new, usually found as souvenirs.  Not sure of their origin as I have never bought one. Buy them if you like them but they are not old folk art.

They are definitely still cute! And you have to start in the hobby somewhere. Don't feel discouraged that they are new just count them as "learning tools" and keep searchin' for treasures!

They even sold these at a store called "Big Lots" for $2 each about 10 years ago!
