I'm looking at an old humidor that I'm thinking would make an interesting cookie jar. But before considering bidding on it, I want to know how old it is. Here is the hallmark. I THINK it says "Made in Germany" and "A.M.C" but I'm having trouble locating A.M.C. According to Porcelain Marks and More the "Made in Germany" text would indicate that it is 1887 or later. My question is how much later! Can anyone help with this one?

I'm sure not getting Germany... I see SHE _ _ MVA and that doesn't add up to any country I know of so I'm no help... Is the design Asian? I think everything looks Asian so I have to ask LOL
-
I am with Oceans, I do not see Germany either but the letters are so smudged it is hard to tell what it is.

http://animalsonart.com/Sculptures.htm This site has a dog statue..."old Borzoi or Saluki from Belgium 7" x 7" marked A.M.C. $75" Do the bottom smudged letters look like Borzoi, Saluki, or Belgium?
No pics of the markings given.
-
Yup, very smudged. I just saw that the seller is in the Netherlands, so I suspect the country name is in another language and this wasn't intended for export. I think those are rams heads on the sides.
I've been looking at old blue humidors, crocks and biscuit jars, looking for something that would be a unique an interesting cookie jar. I am thinking that this design is a not very good match with my Hoosier though, the more I look at it. A little too wild for my kitchen!
-
I'm not any help with this item, talesof.
{Borzoi and Saluki are just breeds of dogs, btw}
-
Talesof, also called the Russian Wolfhound. We love them. Don't know if you remember I have a 100lb+ bronze from France of one! They are so graceful and used in so many art pieces of royalty!
-
Tales, any chance this might be them?
"In 1926, Hubert Bequet began working at the Belgian ceramics manufacturer Auguste Mouzin et Cie (AMC), later renamed La Faencerie de Wasmuel, which operated from 1878 to 1951 in the southwest coal-mining region of Belgium (the Borinage). AMC produced fine quality majolica pieces and in 1910 began mass production of ceramic mantle clocks."

Sapphire you ROCK! OK it dates to 1919. ;D Now I just have to decide if it would be too wild-looking for the Hoosier. It kinda reminds me of a T-shirt I have that says "Come over to the dark side... we have cookies!!"
-
You could maybe 'invent' some Devil's Food Cookies !! :D
-
Personally I LOVE it! ;)
-
Still thinking it looks Asian.... Just sayin' ::) ;D

Did you see that this same jar is shown in photo #4 & #5 from the left?
I like this one, but there are really some pretty neat blue humidors, jars and crocks out there, which makes it hard to decide. I've got a $75 Ebay gift card to spend!
I also like this one:

BTW..........love the Fenton!!
-
Oooooo... the Fenton is my hands down Fav
-
I can see the 1880's one fitting in well with your 'stuff', but still leaning Fenton wise (would you like my address now? :D)
-
Then there is this "Jar o' Chicken", LOL! I hate to admit it but I kinda like it!

Just thought I would follow up on this topic, My search for a cookie jar came to and end the other day when I stumbled upon this cobalt glass jar in the thrift store for three bucks. Not antique, but a perfect match with the rest of the cobalt glass in the kitchen, ideal size for the Hoosier. The jelly jar latch does a great job of keeping cookies fresh too!
It's marked "Farm's Products" on one side, "Products du Champagne" on the other and "Made in Italy" on the bottom. No idea what was in it originally.

Really like the tilted neck on that one Tales. I keep my dog treats in an tall glass canister of my mom's, lots of space but once you get down past the top 1/4 you have to tilt the darn jar to get at the rest. Though it would help if I was taller ;)
