I was wondering if anyone could identify this vintage item. It looks like it could be a food sampler of some sort or maybe a scoop! It measures 10 3/4" long and the metal core part is 1 1/2" in diameter. There is a wood handle and there are no markings on the tool.
Any help would be appreciated.

Kind of big for a cheese core sampler and they are usually tapered with a 'T' handle. Not sure what this is. Could just be a specialized scoop.

Don't know why, but the first thought that came to my mind was for use in a barrel/silo/storage container for grain. Rather like you'd see a plug or spigot in a keg.

I think I'm with Wayward ... for scooping into narrow openings .... ?
It does seem not quite right for a corer ... :-\

That looks like something that was inserted into a large grist mill grinder to take samples of the grinding process.

My grandfather had one similar for coring watermelons when selling off of his farm - but was smaller.
But I have seen a similar one used like sapphire mentioned!

OOPS, I hafta admit that I didn't read Sapphire's Post #2 before I posted or I would have agreed and added my 2 cents to it.

My best guess is that your item may just be a sampling scoop , as others have mentioned , but one for use during a roasting process , such as for some flours/grains , coffee , and so on .
*Could also just be a cool old & useful scoop !*
Any way you cut it , I think you've got a great looking item there , JeanneCurt .
