A really uncomfortable, homemade shoe horn?? ;)
-
I'm betting it is a wood chisel. Similar to the one second to the right below.

Reminds me of the scoops they use when roasting coffee beans !! To retrieve beans and check for proper roasting !!
-
Is it one half of a mould for making silver bullets to use on werewolves?
-
garden trowel/transplanter
-
The short handle implies it was made for use as a scoop.
-
But a very small scoop...
Going by the overall length, then the scoop can only be c 3" x 1" x 1"
Is this a stand-alone piece, or was it part of something bigger?
-
I'm also going with the wood chisel. I have used similar in inletting the part of a gunstock where the barrel and action sit.
-
If it were a chisel it would be very hard to control with the wooden handle so far back. And the metal from the handle to the scoop is long and slender and same diameter. Nothing to hold on to !! Still think it was meant to go into an item,,(barrel or similar) to bring something out !! Coffee beans, seeds,,,, would have to be small enough to fit in the scoop !!
Thinking out loud !!

-
Giraffe tongue-scraper .
-
Well, KC, it sure does resemble some asparagus trowels/transplanters and here is a new transplanter http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/15.5-dewit-dutch-transplanter-10?um=3
-
I think ya need a bigger scoop than that for planting asparagus unless you are just going to be planting the cut spears.

That pictured scoop thingy would work for removing dandylion and planten roots from your lawn.
