I just bought this at a garage sale for $5. Can anyone identify the dark stone and the maker's mark on the back?. I am not even sure it is an ear-ring. It is very heavy for an ear-ring. It is 1.5 inch x 1.5 inch and an odd shape. What is it?

It looks like a pendant.
What makes you think it is gold? From the first picture it looks like the ring between the main piece and the thick circle isn't soldered, which typically means no gold. Also, if it were gold, they would tend to not put metal behind the stone the save on using more gold than they need.
I could be wrong. Do you have access or know someone with a gold test kit?

I agree, it looks like gold colored metal to me. The stone may be onyx? However, with the pendant probably not being real gold, it could really be anything. If it's not real gold, I'd say that the $5 price was about $4.99 too high. The butterfly looks like a very recent maker's mark, probably within the past 25 years.

Classic, hosman. I wish I could say things that nice. I was too blunt and crass on the golf tray. I will have to take some lessons. ;D

I just know how many times I thought something was valuable or an antique and I was pretty upset when I found out it was worth nothing. I'm still a newbie so Azzaro and I have much in common. :)

Very retro, I like those too! I wonder if the first one is a Red Cross one for a lady worker or something? Any marks? The other one looks like a Breast Cancer Awareness one, 1990s-ish. Although I don't know how long they have been using the pink ribbon...

I think the first one is Swiss on a gold edelweiss flower. Not sure what it represents.
Agree on the champagne glass pin and breast cancer awareness. Probably handed out at some fund raising event.

This little charming pin is the official Swiss Tourist Emblem. The Edelweiss (Leontopodium Alpinum) is Switzerland’s national flower and symbolizes purity & strength. Created by a private Swiss company known as the “Swiss Experts” in pin design and quality located in St. Gallen and not readily available outside of Switzerland.
