Title: Antique Dragon Vase
Post by: stuckreversing on July 05, 2011, 10:01:22 AM
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows the value of this vase or whether anyone has seen this before?
It is apparently from the Qing dynasty.
Any form of information will be much appreciated!
Pictures are posted in the link provided below.. Thank you!

Hmmm... Quing Dynasty is 1644–1911. I'm not seeing the kind of wear I would expect to see on the ring of the base. I would expect more discoloration and signes of wear. I'm also concerned about the painting outside of the lines. It does not appear to have been done carefully, but done in a hurry.

Painting does appear to be of mediocre quality or in other words...sloppy. Not a quality piece.

According to my friend in Chinese Arts and Culture, the title on the bottom does claim it to be Quig dynasty, but the bottom appears to be glazed at the foot.  The older pottery is usually unglazed where it sat on the kiln.  There is lots of copies being made today, and they place the marks of the original piece, they say it is to honor the original piece, but according to my friend that is the excuse they use to sell us stuff and we think it is old.
