Title: SOme kind of Brass Ashtray???
Post by: hudsonhacker on August 02, 2011, 11:04:42 AM
Okay, another one that has me stumped. See pics below.

This is a little brass box with a lid, 2.5 inches square by 2.25 inches high. Inside are two little glass caps. There is a mark on the bottom, but I cannot get a good picture of it. Basically, the mark is the letter K overlapping an ovel and inside the oval it is marked " & co".

Your guess is as good as mine. I think it is some kind of old ashtray.  Picked up at an auction a few months ago. It was thrown in for free with an oil lamp I bought. Anyone have an idea what this might be?

Cool! I was totally off base. Makes sense as an inkwell. Hmm, what else do I have that has me stumped??? I am sure as I go through my inventory there is something out there that still has me stumped.

I am late to the table and I agree with inkwell. I am curious about the mark...is it possible this is K & O Co. for Kronheimer and Oldenbusch of New York City.  They were in business from around 1900 to 1942.

That is the exact mark on the bottom. You guys are scary knowledgeable. I hope i can help out with some stuff. If anyone needs info on old sailing stuff, old horse tack, old ski equipment I can help. What people normally consider antiques, well, I am just learning. Hope not to annoy too many people with some of my questions.
