Title: Okay, an interesting one from today
Post by: hudsonhacker on August 06, 2011, 04:07:34 PM
Okay, I have put up some 'different" items in the last week on this forum, figured I would put up another few I picked up today. First one below, will put up another thread for the other, as it is not as interesting.

Found this one at the flea market. Once again, this is for inventory for a show I am putting stuff together for. I have found two others online, one for $150 and one for $100. They were in much worse shape than the one I just bought for $12.

I bet someone Identifies this within a few minutes. I know what it is already, but for fun let's see who nails it first!

All the nails are hand made, square headed. I am trying to nail down an approximate age. I find it is much easier to sell face to face when I can provide a bit of history/knowledge on the piece. If anyone could guess age and maybe toss out an approximate value, it would be helpful. Sometimes when you buy something for $12,it is hard to convince yourself someone else will pay $75 for it, never mind $150!

It is the hub of a wooden wheel if I am not mistaken.

Really? My wife bought one attached to an axle for $5 and I have 4 on a complete unit that I bought years ago. That has been sitting outside as garden art for 20 years and is still standing. Originally bought for $200 including snow runners.

I am not giving more hints than that because this was way too easy.

The $5 axle/partial wheel/hub below that is now garden art.

10 minutes, not bad. Yup, wagon wheel hub.

I was surprised what people are trying to sell these for on EBAY. I thought $12 was a fair price to buy it at, but asking $100 or $150???? A tad out there!

My main interest is the age at this point, I am guessing 1900-1910?

Now that one is way cool, I love the colors! With square nails, I would say a bit earlier. Maybe 1880-90?
