Title: Huntley Furniture - 5 Draw Chest 50x33x18
Post by: tcmanager on September 02, 2011, 03:13:19 PM
There is a Huntley Furniture medallion in the top draw right side. On the back it says 2070 1/2 CHEST. It is dove tail construction and appears to be mahogany with cedar lined draws. I recently received an estimate to refinish the chest of $1200. I am unsure if there is sufficient value in the piece to spend that much getting it refinished. I have attached a few photos. Thank for you time.

I don't know anything about furniture or even if this site I am directing you to is accurate.
It looks like the same piece though:

Welcome to the forum! While it is a beautiful dresser, I don't think it is worth spending that much for refinishing. Not to mention, I think that estimate is ridiculous in the first place. In it's current condition, it's worth about $45.00. If refinished and in beautiful condition, about $150. I would shop around and see if you can get the refinishing done for a few hundred. Then, you'll have a great old piece of furniture for about the same price as a new dresser. Maybe a bit more than a new dresser would cost but it will be worth it for it's age, in my opinion.
You, know, now that I look at the pictures, the condition doesn't look too bad. Maybe you can find a furniture repair place that can fill/color match some of those scratches for much less than refinishing the whole thing.

Appears to be 50`s -60`s construction !! Just touch it up with some old english and use it !! Not worth that price to refinish and that is completely out of the ballpark anyway !!  Hosman is about right on price !!
