I don't think this is too old. Vintage? I was told it was set out at parties filled with cigarettes for the guests. There was an ashtray and a match holder that was part of the set. What became of them, no one knows.
I would like to look it up. Is it what you would call enamel or enamelware? The metal around it copper or bronze?
Made in China.
I haven't any luck finding it. Search term suggestions would be welcome. :)
Thanks in advance.

I'll find it yet!!!!!

I just call this enamelware, but not sure if that is the right term. I don't think it would be cloisonne, look at it real close though. If it is Cloisonne it will have small wire between the different colors, if it is just painted on copper then some kind of Enamelware. Enamelware was really popular in the mid century, usually white and was used for lots of kitchen gadgets.

After taking a closer look it may well be cloisonne, guess I just have a bowl of crow tonight :o

I've since found the knob on top is called a foo dog. I'm going to search for another half hour and then will have to wait until I get home from work tomorrow. At least I have come closer to finding it! Thanks.
It's okay Ironlord, I'm counting on you for my glass stuff... ;)

I haven't had much luck in finding this piece but I came across an excellent site for identifying cloisonne:

Cloisonne is a catch-all name for any enameled metalware and has been made in many countries including Mexico !!

Thanks for the info, Mart! This one is impressed with "China". I have another bowl made of metal, still trying to hunt it down. Good grief, I have boxes of stuff to sort through now! :)

If it just says China rather than Made in China it is pre 1950 or so !!

If you click on the 2nd photo you can see "China" pressed into it. There is a word for that I just can't think of it. So much to learn!
